Dear Supporters of Hope House Trust,
I reflect on the last few months. It’s been a year of ups and downs, loadshedding and taxi strikes, sunny and then freezing days. We lost our Department of Health subsidy of R22,000.00 per month which has caused much anxiety. We have made urgent appeals for support and have been most gratified for the donations made – Thank you. This has assisted us in balancing our budget for the time being.
In addition, we have been busy bees with our regular fundraising drives.
Earlier in July we found a new home for our very popular “Lizette’s Hope House Book Sale”. Jenny and Gary Tullis kindly opened their home, and their living area and kitchen were filled with books of all description. The Booksale continued for three days with a stream of buyers. Many thanks to Jenny, Gary, Lizette, and Marg for the time put in before and during the Booksale and to all those who supported us. We received an amazing R44,000.00, from both sales and donations.
We also we started the “R200 Plus Club”. Members donate R200 or more a month on an ongoing basis, helping us with a stable cash flow. R200 Pluss Club Members get preference to fundraising events and qualify for annual lucky prizes. Many thanks to those who have started the trickle, that we hope can become a steady stream.
On 8th September 2023 we are hosting a SOLD OUT event “World Cup – Analysing our Prospects by John Dobson” We are hugely privileged and most appreciative that John Dobson, despite his busy schedule, has agreed to our request and will be sharing his opinions on what will unfold during the Rugby World Cup.
Tickets are SOLD OUT! Thank you for your response we are looking forward to the event.
John Dobson has also generously donated an MNET contract to Hope House and Betty Solomon has kindly sponsored the MNET installation costs. After 21 years the residents have now for the first time been able to enjoy Wimbledon, the World Cup Netball Championships, and now the build up to the World Rugby Cup and much more to follow.
In July 2023 the residents and staff were saddened by the passing of Maurice Katz. Maurice was one of our first residents – a real gentleman with a lovely sense of humour. He will be missed at Open Day where he always sat under the tree selling books (in customary white cap below).
Bonita Daniels, fondly known as Bonnie, will be leaving us after 10 years of service. We will miss her cheerful energy and take this opportunity to commend her on her exceptional help over the challenging Covid period. We welcome Linzaile Matroos who is replacing Bonnie.
We are most grateful to all the supporters who continue to collect our “Woolies” meals twice a week, and to the Engen Garage, Meadowridge for their ongoing donations.
We thank all our supporters for their help over this difficult time and look forward to seeing you at our future fundraisers.
Warm regards
Jess
