Hope House Trust

The establishment of Hope House started as a dream in 2000. A group of concerned individuals met seeking to provide long term safe and assisted accommodation for adults challenged by the disease of schizophrenia.

In October 2000, The Hope House Trust was registered as a charitable trust and thereafter as a non-profit organization.

To fulfill the dream various fundraising activities were undertaken and appeals were made to potential donors during late 2000 and 2001. The Trustees worked hard and by December 2001, 32 Peak Drive in Pinelands, Cape Town was bought and named “Hope House”.

During the first half of 2002 extensive alterations were made to the property and by July 2002 the first residents moved in.   Until then no long term provision had been made for adults with schizophrenia to receive 24 hr care.

And so it happened – the dream came true!  We thank the public for assisting us in making the establishment of Hope House a reality and for their many generous donations in money and in kind.

We are mindful of the fact that “The level of the civilization of a community is judged by the way in which those members of that community who cannot help themselves are treated.  Let us treat those with the disease of schizophrenia in a way that will affirm the dignity of the community”
